TRY Mentoring

  1. About this service

    Provides mentoring opportunities for young people aged 7 to 20 (volunteers who wish to be a mentor are aged 20+). Children and young people are matched with a mentor in their local area and can be picked up from home. Mentors can provide weekly contact (see one-to-one mentoring) or participate in weekly group activities (see Group mentoring).

        Service operates across all of Metro Melbourne and works with Young People requiring a mentor aged between 7-20 years.

      • Eligibility criteria

        TRY Mentoring supports young people between the ages of 7 and 20 years who are may be experiencing issues such as, but not limited to; • Loneliness/Isolation • Low self esteem • Poor social skills • Anti-social behaviour • Limited adult role models • Disengagement from school/community • Bullying • Mental illness TRY Mentoring believes that having the support and guidance of a mentor, can provide opportunities and experiences that can improve a young person’s outcomes and help them make better life choices. Our 1: 1 program relies upon suitable members of the community volunteering to become mentors. The volunteer and the young person meet up at a time that suits them and they are fully supported by a coordinator for a minimum of 12 months. There is also no financial assistance, any expenses incurred from an outing or activity is paid for by the volunteer and the young person, when they are able. We do encourage low cost or no cost activities, so as not to disadvantage anyone.
